1,300 New Brooklyn Tech Graduates Welcomed to the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Family
On Tuesday, June 18th, the Brooklyn Tech Class of 2024, more than 1,300 strong, joyfully graduated at the Barclays Center. Families packed the stadium to celebrate these exceptional students, the first class since Brooklyn Tech’s founding in 1922 to start their Tech journeys entirely remotely. Despite this unprecedented challenge, they exhibited remarkable tenacity and energy, fully embracing in-person instruction and extracurricular life at Tech. The Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation staff and board of directors were thrilled to be on hand to welcome these newest members to our alumni family.
NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams ’94, who returned to Tech in April for his 30th reunion and again on June 8th for the BTHS Caribbean Culture Club Carnival celebration, delivered the keynote commencement address. Reflecting on his own experiences, he noted, “From 1994 to 2024, I have been shaped by the lessons learned and connections made at Brooklyn Tech.” His inspiring message to the graduates was clear: “Your education can inspire you to change the city and the world.”
Adding to the day’s excitement, NYS Senator Iwen Chu surprised the crowd by presenting Principal David Newman with a $1 million grant from the NYS Senate. This seed funding will go towards a major capital project to recreate the old Foundry space as a multipurpose facility for Brooklyn Tech’s 6,000 students.
The ceremony honored beloved traditions, beginning with the singing of the Brooklyn Tech Alma Mater and concluding with the recitation of the Ephebic Oath, and the iconic tossing of 1,300 white carnations up to the arena’s rafters.
Welcome, Brooklyn Tech Class of 2024, to the Brooklyn Tech alumni family!
