Alumni Foundation Con Edison Internship Program Turns 25 in Summer 2024
Con Edison hired a record 23 interns from Brooklyn Tech in summer 2023 via the Alumni Foundation’s Con Edison Internship Program, overseen by Mathew M. Mandery ’61, Alumni Foundation Chief Educational Officer, assisted by Isaac B. Honor ’74, Internship Coordinator.
“It’s been one of the highlights and most rewarding experiences in my career to coordinate this internship program for the past two decades,” noted Leon Bukhman ‘01, a Con Edison project manager who was in Tech’s first internship program cohort back in 2000. “We’ve not only built careers but also a sustainable and enduring legacy of mentorship.”
As of August 2023, 45 Technites were employed at Con Edison in various capacities.

Of interns to date, 29% have been female, with percentages continuing to increase. Retention in the company averages 22 months of employment, including those who have become full-time employees and continued working, with 163 interns working past the first summer or more than two months. Of 45 employees from Brooklyn Tech as of this summer, 12 were full-time and nine are in management roles. Program participants have attended notable universities, often while continuing to work in the company, including Columbia, Yale, Princeton, NYU, and Fordham.
