Brooklyn Tech Homecoming 2025 Draws Generations of Technites
On Saturday, April 26, 2025, the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation welcomed nearly 650 proud alumni and former faculty back to Tech’s iconic Fort Greene building for a vibrant Homecoming celebration. Technites from 33 states—stretching from Alaska to Wyoming—and the Virgin Islands gathered to reconnect, reminisce, and honor the legacy of one of the nation’s most prestigious STEM high schools. With students on hand, Technites from nine decades—from the 1940s to the present—were represented, with 35% of alumni traveling more than 100 miles and 14% over 1,000 miles to attend.
Michelle Corley, Director of Alumni Engagement and Inclusion of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation, collaborated closely with class representatives to ensure a meaningful and inclusive experience for all. Thanks to her thoughtful planning, every milestone and affinity group was honored, and alumni felt genuinely seen, welcomed, and connected.
More than 400 student volunteers played a vital role in making the day a success. A cheerleader-led “spirit tunnel” greeted guests with energy and enthusiasm, while live performances by the Brooklyn Tech Jazz Band, Organized Chaos step team, Tech Chorale, and Tech String Quartet created a moving and musical atmosphere. The day began and ended with Technite pride, with the auditorium presentation culminating in a spirited rendition of the Alma Mater.
Courtney J. Ulrich ’90, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation, welcomed attendees during the auditorium program, marking her own 35th reunion year. “It was deeply meaningful to stand on that stage, not only as a proud alumna, but as the leader of an organization that connects generations of Technites,” said Ulrich. “This day is a reminder of what’s possible when we come together in service of our school and each other.”

Special guests included NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams ’94 and NYS Assemblymember Latrice Walker ’97, who both credited their public service careers to the education and experiences they received at Tech. Their remarks inspired alumni of all ages to reflect on how Brooklyn Tech shaped their lives and paths forward.
A highlight of the auditorium program was the presentation of Future World Vision: STEM Pathways Consortium, introduced by Matt Mandery ’61, Founder and Chief Educational Officer of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation. His visionary remarks laid out the bold goals of the middle school consortium, underscoring the Foundation’s commitment to Tech’s future.
One of the day’s signature moments was the induction of the Class of 1975 into Brooklyn Tech’s Diamond Club of 50 years ago or more. With 87 members in attendance, the class had one of the largest turnouts in recent history. Tomas Hernandez ’73 welcomed Julia Faraci and Leland Tom Chen ’75 to the stage to officially induct the class and celebrate their enduring connection to the school.
Another major milestone recognized at Homecoming 2025 was the 50th anniversary of Girls Track at Tech. Legendary coach Lenny Malech ’62, an Alumni Foundation Faculty Emeritus Award recipient, was honored for his decades of leadership and mentorship.
Many of the team’s original members returned to celebrate the program’s half-century legacy and pay tribute to Coach Malech’s transformative impact. A Fireside Chat featured a panel of original team members alongside current team captain Vyttoria Saint Amand ’25, who is bound for Yale. The discussion was led by Karen Gray Beaudry ’79, the first Tech alumna to attend Harvard.
Adding a fun and competitive element to the day, Alumni Foundation board members Ed LaGrassa ’65 and Mike Weiss ’57 hosted a live auction of vintage classroom demonstration slide rules. Two seven-foot models were sold for a total of $23,000 in support of Alumni Foundation programs: one to Floyd Warkol ’65 and the other to Mike Mazya ’05, who, respectively, were celebrating their 60th and 20th anniversary reunions. Mazya later carried the slide rule through the halls, inviting fellow Technites to autograph it as a one-of-a-kind memento.
A three-foot vintage demonstration slide rule is still available for purchase. For inquiries, contact Michael Kwon, Director of Development, at mkwon@bthsalum.org.
The Rediscover Tech experience allowed alumni to explore the modernized building, interact with current students and faculty, and see firsthand how innovation and tradition coexist at Tech. From updated labs to new learning spaces, the school’s transformation reflects its ongoing commitment to excellence.
Attendees also had the opportunity to shop exclusive Brooklyn Tech gear at the on-site swag store. The store, created and managed by Miriam Perez ’85, continues to be available year-round at bklyntechpride.com, offering alumni a stylish way to show their school spirit and support the Alumni Foundation.
Homecoming 2025 was more than just a reunion—it was a celebration of Brooklyn Tech’s legacy, its impact, and its bright future. From shared memories to new connections, it was a day that reminded every Technite: no matter where life takes you, Tech is always home.
It was deeply meaningful to stand on that stage, not only as a proud alumna, but as the leader of an organization that connects generations of Technites. This day is a reminder of what’s possible when we come together in service of our school and each other.”
