David Seinfeld Joins Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation as New Program Director
The Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation is proud to welcome David Seinfeld as our new Program Director, bringing with him more than four decades of leadership in public education and a deep passion for empowering students.
A lifelong educator, Seinfeld has served as a teacher, principal, and district administrator, with a career defined by innovation, equity, and student success. In his new role at the Foundation, David will oversee and expand the Foundation’s robust portfolio of student-facing programs, many of which connect Technites to academic, professional, and enrichment opportunities supported by our global alumni community.
“I’ve dedicated my career to creating opportunities for students—helping them discover what’s possible when the right doors are opened,” Seinfeld said. “Brooklyn Tech is a school that does exactly that, and I’m honored to support its students in even more powerful ways.”
Seinfeld will help guide a wide range of Foundation-led initiatives, including:
- Future World Vision STEM Pathways Program and the Algebra Initiative, advancing math and science readiness for students in a consortium of seven Brooklyn public middle schools
- The Jeffrey M. Haitkin ’62 Faculty Grants Program, supporting arts, athletics, academics and innovative teaching
- The prestigious Weston Research Scholars Program, empowering students with three years of hands-on college-level scientific research experience
- The Con Edison Internship Program, providing real-world career experiences for juniors and seniors
- The Thomas Volpe ’53 UrbanGlass Initiative, fostering creative exploration of glass applications for industrial design and entrepreneurship
- Building and nurturing partnerships with industry and higher education, including CCNY, LIU, NYU, St. Francis, and Stevens Institute and the NYU Grossman School of Medicine Rise Up program, among others, offering immersive exposure to careers in medicine and research
This remarkable portfolio of student-centered programs was envisioned and developed under the leadership of Dr. Mathew Mandery ’61, the only Brooklyn Tech alumnus to have served as the school’s principal. A member of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Hall of Fame and one of the Foundation’s three co-founders, Dr. Mandery has been the driving force behind its educational mission for over two decades. As Chief Educational Officer, he created and directed all of the Foundation’s major student initiatives—including the Weston Research Scholars Program, the Algebra Initiative, and numerous academic, research, and enrichment partnerships that now define the Tech experience. Honored at the school’s Centennial Gala in 2022 alongside fellow founders Michael A. Weiss ’57 and Achilles Perry ’58, Dr. Mandery’s legacy is deeply embedded in Brooklyn Tech’s evolution as a national model for alumni-supported public education. Seinfeld joins the Foundation as Dr. Mandery begins a transition to the role of Chief Educational Officer Emeritus.
"Passing the baton to someone of David’s caliber gives me great confidence,” said Mandery. “His understanding of instruction, leadership, and systemic change makes him incredibly qualified to carry the Foundation’s mission forward. I am excited to work with him this year and beyond.”
Seinfeld’s professional journey includes leadership roles at Martin Van Buren High School and Robert F. Kennedy High School in Queens, and Calhoun High School in Merrick, where he served as principal for over a decade. Later, as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, he championed district-wide innovations in teaching, learning, and technology integration.
Outside the classroom, Seinfeld has served on the boards of Community Mainstreaming Associates, FIRST Robotics LI, and Virtual Enterprise International, and is a longtime trustee of the Roslyn School Board of Education. He has also been honored as District Administrator of the Year by the Long Island Foreign Language Supervisors and is a Calhoun High School Hall of Fame inductee.
“David’s leadership reflects a rare blend of instructional depth and strategic vision,” said Courtney J. Ulrich ’90, Executive Director of the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation. “He understands how to translate educational innovation into real opportunities for students. We’re excited for the ways he’ll strengthen our programs and expand their reach across Tech’s vibrant community.”
David and his wife, Dr. Laura Seinfeld, are lifelong educators and parents to two sons and daughters-in-law—all of whom are educators themselves. David and his wife are now grandparents to Hayden and Willow, who “seem destined to continue the family tradition.”
“Joining the Brooklyn Tech Alumni Foundation feels like coming full circle,” Seinfeld said. “It’s a chance to use everything I’ve learned to support one of the most dynamic student bodies in the country.”
As Program Director, Seinfeld will work closely with administrators, educators, students, alumni and external partners to ensure that Brooklyn Tech remains a national leader in public STEM education—one opportunity at a time.
