Harry Chapin ’60
Entertainer and Humanitarian
A seasoned performer while still at Tech, Mr. Chapin’s career included gold album records, his famous number one hit, “Cat’s in the Cradle,” an Oscar-nominated documentary film, a Tony-nominated stage show and an Emmy-winning children’s television program. He was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011. In 1975, he founded World Hunger Year, a charity to fight international famine. His social-justice efforts were posthumously recognized with a Congressional Gold Medal in 1987. In 1981, at the height of his popularity and influence, Mr. Chapin was killed in an automobile accident.
