When you lay your eyes on this photograph, what do you see? What do you feel? The hopeful eyes and beautiful smiles spill out of the image, touching our cores. While they may be 10 out of 6,000 students at Tech, they embody the Tech spirit, a vibrant reminder of what Brooklyn Technical High School offers. At first glance, the only similarity that jumps out about these students is their individual brilliance. However, when you look beyond their academic recognition, you will find that these are peers and friends, students who, when they come together, become a force of nature.
Our students don't see color. They hear the relatable stories about their immigrant parents, feel each other's pains about failing a difficult test, and touch their hearts by providing friendship when times get tough.
Tech boasts a student population of 6,000. That's the size of a town! When students enter through the big heavy doors at the West-Side entrance, they become Tech citizens. At Tech, diversity is not only reflected by the different ethnicities. It is also displayed by the diversity of the mind, intellect, and experiences. People from all walks of life and corners of the world populate its walls. While, at first, many can feel the pressure and anxiety of being small and lonely in a school full of students, students make lifelong friends within clubs, classrooms, and the hallways. Students, like these 10, find their people, passion, and purpose right inside the Tech walls. Our students don't see color. They hear the relatable stories about their immigrant parents, feel each other's pains about failing a difficult test, and touch their hearts by providing friendship when times get tough. Every Technites' robust background enriches the Tech community.
While competitiveness still hangs in the air, it is not overwhelming. Instead, competitiveness fuels students' passions and makes them better. Students at Tech come together and just make it work. We can institute change when we come together. This is not a myth but a fact. Tech's tightly knit community of students blossom into creativity, intelligence, and strength, and together as a community, we stand tall. Now, after taking this into consideration, look at this photograph again. What do you see? What do you feel?
