I have been in California since 1960. I was a commuter and only had three close friends who took the  elevated (“El”) train home every day. No after-school activities or clubs; two hrs./day travel. Have only been in touch with one of those three since 1961. Lived a normal, Californian middle-class life; nothing to brag about. Returned for my 50th anniversary; didn’t recognize anybody. The only reason I attended was because we spent some time with my wife’s relatives otherwise it would have been cost prohibitive. That’s it.
